About the Artist
Raymond Carr is an artist and creative currently based out of Lompoc, CA.
Born and raised in Northern Nevada, and having spent significant time in Santa Barbara County and the Pacific Northwest, he is inspired by the imagery of the Western US: desert and mountain landscapes, warm colors, “Wild West” iconography, and the relationship between humans and the natural world. Neither hyper-realistic nor entirely surreal, his work often juxtaposes familiar flora and fauna with worlds that feel haunting or dreamy, depending on the subject.
His mediums include: illustration, painting, textile art, collage, photography, filmmaking, and writing.
Raymond has always been drawn to create, devoting his childhood bedroom to a large easel and drawers full of art supplies. While his mediums have changed and overlapped throughout the years, art remains a core conduit for processing his lived experiences, such as growing up Queer in a rural town and conservative family, living away from home after turning 15, navigating mental health challenges, and his journey towards self-love and resilience.
